THE PROSTATE CANCER INSTITUTE FUNDRAISING APPEAL
In order to provide housing for key personnel, treatment facilities and PCI activities, a PCI Fundraising Committee comprising local business representatives has been established. The PCI capital works program has a fundraising target of approximately $1.6 million, and already more than 40% has been raised through widespread community support programs.
The foundation patron of the Prostate Cancer Institute Fundraising Committee is Frank Conroy, former Chairman of St. George Bank and a well respected former director of a number of Australian companies.
The committee is chaired by prominent local identity and businessman John Green and other members include Phill Bates AM, Ferdie Dominelli, Peter Hadfield, Peter Hunt, Hon Brian Langton, Warren O'Rourke, Rob Robson, Ms Phillipa Cahill, Ms Patrice Thomas, Dr. Kiran Phadke and Professor John Kearsley, Dr Bill Lynch and Craig South.
The majority of the committee was responsible for community awareness and the raising of funds to build Bezzina House, a 1.6 million dollar, 15 unit facility which houses patients being treated at the St. George Cancer Care Centre.
Bezzina House, the Cancer Care Lodge, has provided an excellent accomodation families of patients at a minimum cost. It is one of the most outstanding facilities of its kind in Australia and has helped people when they are in need of support the most.
There is no doubt that the many promotions in the region have greatly enhanced the publicity and awareness of Prostate Cancer and the need for testing, which has resulted in the large increase of new patients in the past two years.
